People Exchanging Power (PEP) was founded in the 1980s in the United States, at a time when BDSM was far less visible and accepted than it is today. Founder Nancy Ava Miller recognized a need for something more than just physical encounters. People were looking for understanding, recognition, and someone who could listen without judgment. With that in mind, she built a network of telephone hotlines and support groups spread across various cities.
What makes PEP special is that from the very beginning, it was not just commercial, but also social and educational. It wasn’t about quick, superficial conversations, but about genuine connection. Today, PEP still exists, led by Sera Miles. The organization has grown into a professional service where women – the so-called “Ladies of PEP” – offer conversations focused on kink, fetish, and power dynamics.
