Apadravya
Definition
An Apadravya is an intimate piercing jewelry in which a straight barbell runs vertically through the glans of the penis, from the bottom to the top. It is one of the most well-known and intense forms of genital piercing.

Explanation of Apadravya
The name Apadravya originates from ancient Indian texts such as the Kama Sutra, in which this type of piercing was already described as a means of increasing a partner’s sexual pleasure. In modern times, the Apadravya is one of the more severe genital piercings and is particularly popular within the BDSM and body modification culture.
The piercing is done by piercing the glans vertically. Often, the bar runs from the urethral opening to the top of the glans. This requires a lot of skill from the piercer and a long healing period of 6 to 9 months on average. The jewelry itself is usually a straight barbell made of surgical steel, titanium, or another biocompatible material.
Intense stimulation
Many wearers choose an Apadravya because of the intense stimulation it can provide during penetration – both for themselves and their partner. At the same time, wearing it is experienced as a powerful symbol of commitment, courage, and body awareness. Within BDSM, an Apadravya can also be part of a game of pain, control, and aesthetics.
Safety & points of attention
Experienced piercer
Always have an Apadravya done by a specialized and experienced piercer.
Hygiene
The risk of infection is high with this type of piercing, especially during the healing period. Good aftercare is crucial.
Healing time
Allow for a minimum of 6 to 9 months of recovery time; sexual activity is only recommended once the piercing has healed completely.
Pain and swelling
Immediately after the piercing, there may be considerable pain and swelling. This is part of the process, but requires care and caution.
Medical risks
The piercing goes through sensitive tissue and, if done incorrectly or with insufficient aftercare, can lead to complications such as bleeding, inflammation, or scarring.
BDSM play
Be cautious with pulling forces or weight on the piercing during play, especially during the healing phase.
