Explanation of dental play

Dental play focuses on creating excitement and sensations through the use of dental tools and procedures, such as examining the mouth, using mirrors, hooks, syringes, or playing the typical sound of a dentist’s drill. For some, the dentist naturally evokes feelings of fear, helplessness, or surrender – feelings that can be explored or transformed into excitement in a controlled, conscious manner in a BDSM context.

The play can range from a playful “dental check-up” to an intense psychological role-play in which the Dominant acts as a dentist or examiner. The sensory aspect plays a major role: the sound of metal on teeth, the smell of gloves and disinfectant, or the feeling of a spreader gag can have a strong erotic effect. Some Dominants also use medical lighting or mouth clamps, such as a Jenning gag or mouth spreader, to enhance the experience.

Safety & points of attention

Safety is of paramount importance in dental play. The mouth is sensitive and vulnerable: mucous membranes, gums, and teeth can be easily damaged.

Only use sterile or thoroughly cleaned instruments, preferably without sharp edges. Do not hit the teeth too hard with metal instruments and do not apply pressure to the gums.

Saliva production may increase, which poses a risk of suffocation if the sub is in a lying position. Therefore, avoid prolonged or excessive spreading of the mouth and regularly check the sub’s comfort and breathing.

Never use real dental drills or injection needles without medical knowledge. If there are existing dental or jaw problems, dental play should be avoided or only applied very mildly.
