Explanation Bastinado

Bastinado is an ancient form of punishment that was used in many cultures as corporal punishment, but within BDSM it has evolved into a refined, sensitive, and intensely physical form of impact play.

What makes bastinado unique is the choice of location: the soles of the feet. These are rich in nerve endings, poorly protected by fat or muscle mass, and therefore extremely sensitive to touch and pain. Within a BDSM setting, bastinado is much more than simply hitting someone on the feet. It is a game of control, anticipation, and intensity. The sub is often placed in a vulnerable position – bound, lying down, or with their feet up – making the submission physically palpable. The Dominant then chooses the rhythm, the location, the force, and the amount.

Reflex zones

The soles of the feet are not only sensitive, they are also connected to reflex zones, which means that bastinado can have a profound effect: tingling, muscle contractions, euphoria, or even emotional release. For some subs, it feels like punishment, for others, it is a way to enter a deep state of surrender or trance.

Bastinado can stand alone, but is also often combined with other elements such as bondage, blindfolds, or dirty talk. In ritual or devotional settings, bastinado has a place as a means of breaking the ego and awakening the body.

However, caution is advised. The skin of the feet is thin, the nerve pathways are sensitive, and there is a risk of injury if played carelessly or too hard. That is precisely why bastinado is a game form par excellence for those who love precision, control, and a game full of psychological tension.

Safety & points of attention

Build up the play slowly

Start with gentle taps or strokes and gradually increase the intensity. The soles of the feet react faster and more intensely than other parts of the body.

Use the right instrument

Thin canes, bamboo sticks, or small paddles work well. Avoid heavy, wide whips or hard objects that can cause bruising.

Avoid bone contact and vulnerable areas

Preferably strike the center of the sole of the foot. Avoid hitting the toes, heel, or ankle joints.

Check for sensitivity or medical conditions

Foot problems such as circulatory disorders, diabetes, or nerve problems can make bastinado risky. Always ask about this.
