Snap hook
Definition
A snap hook is a metal hook with a spring closure that is used to quickly and securely attach parts to each other. Within BDSM, the snap hook is often used in bondage, restraint, and harness work, for example to attach cuffs, chains, or ropes to rings or harnesses.

Explanation of snap hook
The snap hook originally comes from climbing and equestrian sports, where it was used to securely fasten ropes and equipment. In BDSM, it has gained a permanent place due to its reliability, ease of use, and versatility. The hook is usually made of stainless steel or nickel and has a spring clip that opens and closes quickly, allowing the Dominant to easily change links or parts during a session.
Snap hooks are used in various forms of bondage and restraint: they connect wrist or ankle cuffs to chains, D-rings, eye bolts, or other attachment points. Their construction allows them to bear weight and remain securely closed, even when pulled. For many players, the click of the hook also has a psychological effect – the sound of it clicking into place can evoke tension, anticipation, and surrender.
They come in various sizes and shapes, from small lightweight versions to industrial designs. Some players also use black or coated carabiners for an aesthetic effect that better suits a leather or latex outfit.
Safety & points of attention
Only use good quality snap hooks, preferably made of stainless steel or aluminum, without sharp edges or burrs. Cheap versions can bend or break when suddenly pulled. Before each use, check that the spring works smoothly and closes completely.
When using in bondage, pay attention to the position of the body: a hook should never press directly on the skin or pinch nerves. For suspension, only professional hooks and fasteners that are suitable for supporting body weight should be used.
Clean the hooks after use, especially if they have come into contact with sweat or moisture, to prevent rusting. Store them in a dry place and check them regularly for wear and tear.
