Alligator clips
Definition
Alligator clips (also known as crocodile clips) are small metal clips with teeth that were originally used in electrical engineering, but are now used in BDSM as a torture device for pain play (sensation play). They are mainly used on nipples, labia, scrotum, or other sensitive areas of skin, and can cause intense sensations due to their sharp grip.

Explanation Alligator clips
Alligator clips owe their name to their shape: small “jaws” with serrated teeth, similar to those of an alligator. In the BDSM world, they are valued for their direct, intense pain stimulus and ease of use. The sensation is sharp, sometimes abrasive, and can range from intensely uncomfortable to deliciously painful – depending on the placement, duration, and sensitivity of the sub.
The clamps can be used separately, but are often connected with chains or rope, allowing for the addition of extra tension or weight. Think of small weights, pulling force, or even a bondage position where every movement causes pain. The effect is often not only in the placement, but also in the removal: when a clamp is released, the blood flows back and creates a second wave of burning pain.
Alligator clamps are used in various BDSM contexts:
- During pain play (punishment or challenge)
- In mindfuck games (threat, anticipation)
- During orgasm control (e.g., in combination with nipple play or CBT)
- As psychological control (“If you move, you pull on the chain”)
Although alligator clips are quite small, they can cause serious damage if used carelessly. The teeth can tear or bruise the skin, and prolonged closure of the blood supply can cause tissue damage.
Safety & points of attention
- Maximum duration: 3 to 5 minutes per spot. Longer increases the risk of tissue damage or necrosis.
- Do not use on the face, clitoris, penis, or other areas with very thin skin or many blood vessels.
- Disinfect before and after use. Especially if the clamps have caused wounds before.
- Build up tension. Start with gentle pressure and increase gradually, possibly using clothespins first.
- Check your sub. Watch for pale skin, discoloration, numbness, or clammy reactions—signs to stop immediately.
Want to make it less intense? Line the inside of the clamp with a piece of rubber or felt for cushioning, or use them on top of clothing or tape as an intermediate layer.
