Collar
Definition
A collar is, within BDSM, a symbol of devotion, ownership, and/or submission. It can be a practical tool, but is primarily seen as a sign of the dynamic between Dominant and submissive.

Explanation of collar
The collar is one of the most recognizable and loaded symbols within BDSM. Although it is literally a collar worn around the neck, its meaning often goes far beyond the physical object. A collar represents connection, commitment, and ownership within the D/s relationship. There are different types of collars, depending on the context:
Training collar: often simple in design, intended for subs who are just starting out on their D/s path.
Play collar or play collar: worn during sessions, sometimes for practical reasons (e.g., to attach a chain or leash).
Formal collar: a fixed collar that symbolizes a long-term, serious D/s relationship. This is often seen as the equivalent of marriage within the BDSM world.
Day collar: a more subtle variant (e.g., a necklace or choker) that can also be worn discreetly in everyday life.
Feeling of security
The experience of wearing a collar can be deeply emotional. For many subs, wearing a collar means a feeling of security, surrender, and pride. For the Dominant, it can reinforce the feeling of responsibility, care, and ownership. Collaring a sub is often seen as a ritual, in which the symbolic meaning is just as important as the object itself.
Safety & points of attention
Make sure a collar is never too tight; the airways and blood circulation must remain unobstructed.
Leather, metal, rubber, or fabric each have their own look and comfort level. Choose what suits the situation.
Not every sub wants or is able to wear a collar openly. Discuss where and when it is appropriate.
