Shackle
Definition
A harpoon hook is a metal fastener in the shape of a U- or D-bracket with a removable pin, which is used in BDSM as an attachment point for ropes, chains, or other bondage elements.

Explanation of a shackle
The shackle was originally a maritime and industrial connecting piece, also known as a shackle. It consists of a sturdy metal bracket and a pin or screw that closes the opening. This construction allows the hook to be easily attached to a ring, chain, rope, or other attachment point.
In BDSM, a harpoon hook is often used as a connecting element in bondage constructions. For example, it can be used to connect ropes, connect chains to shackles, or to quickly and safely release a bondage setup. Because the pin is easy to remove, a connection can be opened relatively quickly when necessary.
The name “harpoon hook” probably comes from the shape of the bracket, which resembles the curved shape of a harpoon. In a technical context, the object is usually referred to as a D-shackle or bow shackle.
Safety & points of attention
When using harpoon hooks in bondage, it is important that the material is sturdy and reliable.
Preferably use stainless steel or hardened steel of good quality. Always check that the pin is fully secured before applying tension.
Avoid sharp edges that could damage ropes or skin.
Use the hook exclusively as a connecting piece, not as a pressure point on the body. Make sure the pin remains easily accessible so that a construction can be opened quickly.
