AIDS
Definition
AIDS is the final and most serious stage of infection with the HIV virus, in which the immune system is severely compromised and the body has insufficient resistance to infections and diseases.

Explanation of AIDS
AIDS develops when an HIV infection remains untreated and the immune system is weakened over a long period of time. HIV targets specific immune cells, making the body increasingly unable to fight infections. In the AIDS stage, so-called opportunistic infections can develop. These are infections that would hardly stand a chance in a healthy immune system, but now become serious and sometimes life-threatening.
Within BDSM, knowledge about AIDS and HIV is very important, not only because of sexual contact, but also because of possible exposure to blood or wound fluid during intense forms of play. Think of needle play, knife play, rougher impact play, or situations in which the skin is damaged. The risk is not in BDSM itself, but in unprotected contact with infected blood, semen, vaginal fluid, or wound fluid.
Thanks to modern medication, HIV can now be treated effectively. People who use their medication correctly and have an undetectable viral load can no longer transmit HIV through sex. However, this does not alter the fact that awareness, responsibility, and clear agreements remain essential within any BDSM dynamic.
Safety & points of attention
Protection and prevention are crucial. The use of condoms, gloves, and barrier methods significantly reduces the risk of transmission. In games involving blood, it is important to take extra hygiene measures, such as working with sterile materials and avoiding direct blood-to-blood contact.
Open communication about health, testing, and any diagnoses is part of careful BDSM. This requires maturity, trust, and respect for privacy. No one is obligated to share personal medical information, but agreements about protection and safety are.
It is important to emphasize that AIDS is not a moral judgment and is not linked to guilt or “wrong behavior.” Stigmatization leads to insecurity, while knowledge and openness contribute to a safe and respectful BDSM experience.
