Queer
Definition
Queer is an umbrella term for people who do not fully identify with traditional categories of sexual orientation or gender. It is used to express space, fluidity, and diversity in identity and experience.

Explanation of queer
The word queer has a long history. Once used as a slur, it is now embraced by many people as a positive, open identity. It is not a fixed category, but rather an umbrella under which anyone who does not feel completely at home in strict labels such as straight, gay, lesbian, bi, man, or woman can fall.
Within the BDSM world, you often encounter the term because BDSM is all about freedom, self-expression, and breaking through fixed patterns. People who call themselves queer often find recognition in the openness of the BDSM scene: you can be yourself without having to fit into a specific box.
Attitude to life
Queer is not only about who you love, but also about how you see yourself, how you move in relationships, how you experience sexuality, and how you connect with others. For some, it’s about identity, for others it’s about attitude to life: room for deviation, creativity, and breaking norms.
In a D/s context, queer can play a role in how people shape their dynamics. Not everyone fits into the classic “man-Dominant, woman-sub” roles, and queer people often feel freer to fill these roles in their own way. This is not about politics, but about authenticity.
Safety & points of attention
Queer is voluntary; no one should have the term imposed on them.
Identity is determined by the person themselves.
A queer identity says nothing about roles or preferences; consent and communication remain paramount.
It is an umbrella term, not a diagnosis; be careful how you apply it.
