Nose hook
Definition
A nose hook is a BDSM instrument used to pull the nostrils open or lift the nose. It is usually used in bondage, medical play or humiliation to give the sub a defenseless, open or humiliated appearance. The nose hook can be used for both functional and aesthetic purposes.

Explanation of nose hook
A nose hook usually consists of a metal hook-shaped instrument (sometimes with two ends) that is placed in the nostrils. The hooks are then pulled upward or backward with a strap, rope, or chain, keeping the nose permanently in an upturned position. This creates an exposure effect: the facial expression changes, breathing is noticeably affected, and the sub’s face takes on an exaggerated, almost animalistic expression.
Nose hooks are used in various contexts:
In medical play, the nose hook can give a clinical look, for example in combination with a mouth spreader or latex gloves.
In humiliation play, it is used to literally and figuratively ‘open’ the sub to the gaze of the Dominant.
In photography or ritual play, the hook can serve as a visual symbol of surrender or dehumanization.
There are different models, ranging from light stainless steel hooks with adjustable straps to heavier medical variants with hinged arms. Some come with rubber ends for more comfort, others without, for a more intense sensation.
Safety & points of attention
The use of a nose hook requires extreme caution, as the nose is vulnerable and has a strong blood supply.
Apply the hook carefully and do not use excessive pulling force; this can lead to nosebleeds or tears in the mucous membrane.
Check regularly that the sub can still breathe properly and is not experiencing dizziness or pain.
Disinfect the instrument before and after use, especially if it has come into contact with mucous membranes.
Avoid use in cases of colds, allergies, or a blocked nose, and on people who have had nose corrections or piercings in that area.
Always work within the limits of consent and trust, as the feeling of powerlessness and visual humiliation can be mentally intense.
After use: cleaning and cooling the area can help reduce swelling or irritation.
