Dungeon
Definition
A dungeon is a specially equipped room where BDSM experiences take place. It is a safe, controlled environment where dominants and submissives can engage in their play, often equipped with furniture, cuffs, whips, and other attributes associated with BDSM culture.

Explanation of dungeon
The word dungeon literally means prison cell, but within the BDSM world it has taken on a symbolic meaning. A dungeon is not a place of punishment or imprisonment in the traditional sense, but a space where power, surrender, and trust come together. It is a sacred place – a play space where the outside world ceases to exist and the inner world of desire, fear, lust, and connection takes center stage.
Dungeons vary greatly in style and atmosphere. Some are professionally equipped with metal frames, crosses, hoist beams, and medical tables. Others are homely and intimate, with candlelight, soft music, and discreet furniture that serves a dual purpose. The decor often reflects the personality of the owner: from sleek and clinical to mystical and sensual.
Safety and control
What all dungeons have in common is their intention: safety and control. Everything is designed so that players can surrender completely, without worrying about practical matters such as noise, distractions, or privacy. The space is carefully prepared—materials are ready, hygiene is monitored, and there is respect for the energy of those who enter.
Within the community, public or semi-public dungeons are also used for parties, workshops, or demonstrations. Specific house rules apply: consent is always required, touching without consent is prohibited, and respect for boundaries is non-negotiable. In such spaces, a Dungeon Master is often present to supervise compliance with the rules.
Safety & points of attention
Safety within a dungeon is the responsibility of everyone who plays or is present there. Clear agreements, mutual respect, and knowledge of materials are essential to prevent accidents or misunderstandings.
Ensure that the space is clean, well-lit, and well-ventilated.
Only use safe, tested materials that are in good condition.
Check hooks, chains, and suspension points for strength.
Always keep first aid supplies within reach.
Respect the energy in the space: do not just walk in during a session and be considerate of other people’s experiences.
Afterwards, tidying up and cleaning are part of the closing ritual – out of respect for the next player and the space itself.
