Cocooning

Definition
Cocooning is a form of bondage in which the body of the submissive is completely wrapped or bound, so that they have no freedom of movement. This can be done with rope, foil, leather, or latex and gives the feeling of being locked up in a ‘cocoon’.

Explanation of cocooning

Cocooning is a bondage technique that revolves around complete immobilization. The sub’s body is carefully wrapped from head to toe, often in multiple layers, until movement is virtually impossible. This can be done with cling film, industrial film, shrink wrap, duct tape, or special bondage material. Rope can also be used, although this requires more time and technique. The feeling of cocooning is intense and often has both a physical and psychological effect.

Physically, it puts strong pressure on the body, similar to heavy weighted blankets, which can evoke a feeling of security or, conversely, oppression. Psychologically, cocooning affects themes such as surrender, powerlessness, claustrophobia, and trust. For some, it is a meditative experience in which they completely “let go,” while for others it is a challenging confrontation with their limits.

Visually exciting image

Cocooning can also have an aesthetic or ritualistic character. The tight and careful wrapping can create a visually exciting image, while the sub experiences how every bit of freedom of movement disappears step by step. For the Dominant, cocooning is a way to experience complete control and bring the sub into a total state of dependence.

Safety & points of attention

Make sure that the chest and face are never obstructed. It must always be possible to breathe freely.

Check regularly that hands, feet, and other limbs are not getting cold or blue; entrapment can quickly become dangerous.

Never leave someone wrapped up for too long; the heat can rise quickly and circulation problems can occur.

Always keep bandage scissors handy that can cut through foil or tape without damaging the skin.
