Chaps

Definition
Chaps are leather (or imitation leather) leg coverings that originally come from equestrian sports, but are worn as erotic clothing in BDSM and fetish. They cover the legs and hips, while the crotch and often the buttocks remain exposed.

Explanation of chaps

Within BDSM, chaps have a distinct symbolic and aesthetic function. They accentuate the body, emphasize the legs and pelvis, and create a powerful, raw look. Because the crotch is open, chaps combine coverage and exposure at the same time, which creates an exciting tension between control and vulnerability within BDSM.

Chaps are often worn by both Dominants and subs, depending on the role and setting. For Dominants, they reinforce authority, power, and presence, while for subs, they can represent availability, objectification, or sexual openness. They are often combined with other leather items such as harnesses, collars, boots, or gloves and fit well in leather, SM, and fetish settings, as well as photo shoots, role-playing, and clubs.

Safety & points of attention

Leather must be cleaned and cared for properly to prevent skin irritation, odors, and wear. When used in combination with sexual acts, it is wise to take body fluids into account and clean the leather carefully afterwards.
