Carabiner
Definition
A carabiner is a metal hook with a spring clip or screw closure that is used to quickly and securely attach parts to each other. Within BDSM, the carabiner is widely used in bondage, suspension, and restraint to securely attach ropes, chains, or cuffs to rings or other attachment points.

Explanation of carabiner
The carabiner originated in mountaineering and climbing, where it is used to quickly and reliably connect rope, harness, and anchor point. In BDSM, the hook has the same practical function: it facilitates the securing and releasing of a sub or object without complicated knots.
There are different types of carabiners: with spring clips, screw locks, or double openings. In a BDSM context, stainless steel hooks are mainly used because they are strong, hygienic, and easy to clean. They are suitable for connecting handcuffs, ankle cuffs, chains, or rope suspensions to a D-ring, anchor point, or suspension space.
The hook not only offers convenience, but also a sense of control and security within the game. For many players, the clicking sound of a carabiner is even part of the experience – it marks the moment when the submissive is literally secured, surrendered to the will of the Dominant.
Safety & points of attention
Although carabiners appear sturdy and reliable, not all hooks are suitable for heavy loads. Therefore, only use approved hooks with a clearly indicated load capacity (in kN or kilograms) for suspension or situations where the entire weight of a body is being supported.
Cheap or decorative variants can break or spring open, especially when under tension. Make sure that the spring clip closes completely and that the hook is not loaded at an angle.
Check the hook regularly for wear, rust, or deformation.
When suspending someone, never use carabiners with an open spring clip, but always use ones with a screw closure or locking mechanism so that they cannot accidentally open.
