Puppy play
Definition
Puppy play is a form of BDSM role play in which the sub takes on the role of a puppy and the Dominant acts as handler, trainer, or owner. It revolves around playfulness, instinct, behavior, and temporarily letting go of human language and social inhibitions.

Explanation of puppy play
Puppy play is one of the most playful forms of roleplay within BDSM. The sub – the “puppy” – adopts the behavior and body language of a dog: wagging its tail, sniffing, playing, crawling on all fours, licking, making noises, and responding to simple commands. For the pup, it often feels liberating to break free from expectations, thoughts, and words; you don’t have to be rational for a moment, you can just live purely in the moment.
The Dominant or handler guides this process: through training, positive reinforcement, attention, touch, and sometimes discipline. The connection between pup and handler is often intense and warm. It is not necessarily about eroticism; much puppy play is focused on emotional security, play, freedom, and contact. However, it can also be erotically charged, depending on the dynamics and the agreements that have been made.
Playful and obedient
Puppy play has different forms of expression. Some pups enjoy playful romping, search games, cuddling, or obedience training. Others find peace in the stage presentation of puppy gear such as harnesses, masks, tails, ear pieces, or knee pads. For many participants, it is a form of regression-like comfort: you can just be, without judgment, without performance, without words.
Within a D/s dynamic, puppy play can serve as training, bonding, ownership, or a form of nonverbal surrender. It is both gentle and playful, but can also involve clear discipline and boundaries.
Safety & points of attention
Protect knees, wrists, and ankles. Puppy play often involves being on hands and knees; soft surfaces or protectors are advisable.
Crawling and playing positions can be stressful; breaks are important.
No real dog accessories without modification. For example, dog chains or collars can be too sharp or unsafe for human use.
Puppy play should remain playful and voluntary – never an obligation or a means of control without consent.
