Poppers
Definition
Poppers is the collective name for volatile, strong-smelling liquids based on alkyl nitrites that are inhaled to produce a short-lived, relaxing, and tingling sensation. They are sometimes used during anal sex or BDSM to relax muscles and intensify the experience.

Explanation of poppers
Poppers are usually sold in small bottles. When you open the bottle, the liquid evaporates immediately and produces a pungent odor that is inhaled through the nose. The effects are almost immediate and usually last only one to two minutes. Many users experience a sudden warmth, a slight feeling of floating, and temporary muscle relaxation, especially around the pelvic floor.
Within the BDSM scene, some people use poppers to feel deep surrender, reduce inhibitions, or make penetration (such as in anal play) easier. It can also play a role in dominance play, as the sub feels “looser” or more open more quickly.
However, poppers use should never be part of the basis of BDSM. The experience of connection, consent, and conscious feeling disappears when someone is under the influence. Moreover, poppers are not an erotic aid that can be used without risk. They should always be a conscious choice and never part of pressure or coercion. In many countries, poppers are legally available as “room odorizers” or “leather cleaners,” but they remain a psychoactive substance with real risks.
Safety & points of attention
The use of poppers together with substances such as sildenafil (Viagra) can lead to dangerous drops in blood pressure.
The liquid is toxic if swallowed and can cause severe chemical burns on contact with skin or mucous membranes.
Good ventilation is necessary to prevent dizziness and fainting.
Inhaling too deeply or too often can lead to oxygen deprivation and fainting.
Do not use if you have heart problems, blood pressure problems, or anemia. The effects on blood pressure can increase risks.
Be careful with bondage. When someone is tied up, dizziness or fainting can be especially dangerous.
Do not use poppers during intense pain play. Slowed reflexes and reduced pain sensitivity can lead to overexertion or injury.
Be aware of dependence on the sensation. Not physically addictive, but some people become mentally dependent on the “kick” in order to relax.
