Nails
Definition
Within BDSM, nails refer both to a physical characteristic and to an instrument that can be used to administer stimuli. They are used to caress, scratch, mark, or inflict pain on the skin, ranging from gentle and seductive to sharp and sadistic.

Explanation of nails
Nails play a subtle but powerful role in many BDSM experiences. The touch of nails is sensually intense: the skin immediately recognizes the difference between a soft hand and a sharp edge. This allows Dominants to build tension without any aids. A light scratch across the skin, sudden pressure on the neck, or grabbing the breast with the nails – these are small gestures that radiate power, threat, or eroticism.
For some, the use of nails is part of sensory play: stimulating the skin with different textures, from soft to sharp. For others, it has a symbolic meaning: nails as a sign of strength, femininity, or dominance. In Femdom play, the combination of long, manicured nails and controlled touch is often seen as a visual and psychological weapon.
Nails can also be used to subtly punish or mark, for example by lightly scratching the back or thighs. The rhythm, pressure, and tone of the touch determine whether it is experienced as tender, threatening, or painful.
Safety & points of attention
Because nails make direct contact with the skin, hygiene and care are essential. Clean, well-filed nails prevent wounds or infections.
Never use nails with cracks or sharp edges, and disinfect hands beforehand if skin contact or small scratches occur.
Intense use (such as vigorous scratching) can break the skin; clean and treat the area with an antiseptic and ointment to prevent inflammation.
Psychologically, build up tension, let the sub feel what is coming, and read their reaction.
