Infantilism
Definition
Infantilism is a form of age play in which an adult (usually the sub) consciously takes on the role of a child. This can range from behaviors such as speaking in a childlike voice or wearing children’s clothing, to completely assuming a childlike identity during a session or role play. The Dominant often takes on the role of parent, caregiver, or educator in this game.
Explanation of infantilism
Infantilism is not primarily about age, but about regression – the temporary return to a childlike state of being. It can have different meanings: for some, it is a way to experience total surrender, without responsibility or pressure to perform. For others, it is a source of comfort, security, or loss of control.
Within BDSM, infantilism mainly occurs in the form of Adult Baby/Diaper Lover (ABDL) dynamics, in which the sub behaves like a baby or toddler. This can involve clothing (rompers, diapers, bibs), rituals (being fed with a bottle, being changed), and a specific form of interaction in which the Dominant or “Caregiver” fulfills an educational or nurturing role.
Sexuality
Not all infantilists are sexually oriented in their experience. For some, it has nothing to do with eroticism, but revolves around emotional security, regression, or stress relief. For others, the sexual component is very present, especially if the submissive becomes aroused by humiliation, dependence, or powerlessness.
Safety & points of attention
Infantilism should never be confused with pedophilia. Both parties are adults and voluntarily agree to the division of roles.
