Ice cubes
Definition
Ice cubes are used in BDSM as a play object for cold stimulation on the skin or intimate areas. This form of temperature play (temperature sensation) plays with the contrast between cold and heat, and can be used both sensually and sadistically.

Explanation of ice cubes
The use of ice cubes in BDSM is a relatively simple but effective way to intensify sensory stimulation. An ice cube that slowly melts on the skin can cause tingling, goose bumps, and even mild pain. When the cold is alternated with heat (e.g., hot wax, a heated stainless steel toy, or a warm hand), a strong contrast is created that brings the sub into a heightened state of awareness.
Ice cubes can be used in many ways: on the chest, stomach, or inner thighs, but also on more sensitive areas such as the nipples, lips, genitals, or between the buttocks. Some Dominants use an ice cube in the sub’s mouth during oral service, or let an ice cube melt in the vagina or anus – although this requires extreme caution.
This form of play can be part of sensory play, tease and denial, or temperature play, in which cold and heat alternate. The cold causes blood vessels to constrict and the skin to tighten, which increases sensitivity.
Safety & points to consider
Although ice cubes seem harmless at first glance, there are some important points to consider:
Pay attention to the skin’s reaction: prolonged cold in one spot can cause burns or numbness. Move the ice constantly.
Be careful with people who have poor circulation or nerve problems, such as diabetes or nerve damage.
Alternating with heat can intensify the experience, but avoid sudden extreme temperature changes on sensitive skin or mucous membranes.
