Hypnosis

Definition
Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation and heightened concentration in which a person becomes more receptive to suggestions. Within BDSM, hypnosis is used as a form of mental domination, whereby the submissive voluntarily allows the dominant to temporarily influence their thoughts, feelings, or physical sensations.

Explanation of hypnosis

Within the BDSM world, hypnosis refers to the deliberate induction of a trance-like state in the sub, often with the aim of deepening relaxation, surrender, or control. It is a form of play that revolves around trust, mental connection, and subtle power. The Dominant (also called hypno-Dom) uses voice, breathing, and language rhythm to put the sub into a trance. Once the sub is in this state, suggestions can be given that temporarily influence emotions, perception, or behavior.

Examples include inducing tingling sensations, intensifying pain perception, evoking memories, or temporarily “immobilizing” the body without physical bondage. In an erotic context, hypnosis can also be used to explore desires or fantasies that are otherwise difficult to achieve, such as complete surrender, role reversal, or regression.

Voluntary experience

Hypnosis within BDSM is not the same as stage hypnosis or show hypnosis. It is not about spectacle or loss of control, but about a safe, voluntary experience in which the sub always has the option to stop. The power lies in the suggestion and in the emotional deepening between Dominant and sub – an encounter on a mental and energetic level.

Some experienced players combine hypnosis with physical stimuli or sensory play to enhance the suggestive experience. For example: a light touch that is experienced as intensely burning or, conversely, ice-cold in a trance. The boundary between reality and imagination then becomes blurred, allowing the play to feel deeply emotional and transformative.

Safety & points of attention

Hypnosis requires mutual trust, experience, and careful communication. Because the sub is in an altered state of consciousness, the responsibility lies entirely with the Dominant to act ethically and respectfully.

Important points of attention:

Hypnosis may only take place with explicit consent.

Never use suggestions that could cause lasting damage, physically or psychologically.

Hypnosis is not therapy, unless performed by a qualified therapist.

Afterwards, allow the sub to come out of the trance gently, using a calm voice and clear anchors in the here and now.

Plan sufficient aftercare: hypnosis can trigger emotions or cause temporary confusion.

Hypnosis is not suitable for people with serious mental illnesses, dissociation, or trauma that has not been professionally treated.

When used correctly, hypnosis can be an extremely valuable tool in mental domination: subtle, intense, and deeply connecting. It makes it tangible that power is not only in the hands or rope, but also in the voice, attention, and intention.
