Gas mask
Definition
A gas mask is a mask that covers the entire face and was originally intended to protect against toxic substances, but within BDSM it is used as part of fetishism, power play, and sensory control.

Explanation of gas mask
The gas mask is a popular fetish object within BDSM, especially among enthusiasts of latex play, rubber fetish, and breath control. The mask makes the wearer anonymous, isolated, and sometimes restricts their breathing or vision. This creates an intense feeling of surrender and dependence. The gas mask also reinforces the contrast between power and vulnerability: the Dominant literally determines how much air, contact, or freedom the sub still has.
Some gas masks are purely visual and have openings for the mouth and nose, while others are equipped with filters or tubes that deliberately influence breathing. In extreme variants, a Dominant can restrict or temporarily shut off the air supply, but this falls under breath control and requires a great deal of knowledge, experience, and responsibility.
In addition to the functional side, the psychological aspect also plays a major role. Wearing a gas mask can evoke feelings of humiliation, powerlessness, objectification, or, conversely, deep calm and focus. Many submissives describe it as an experience in which the outside world disappears, sounds become muffled, and all attention turns inward.
Safety & points of attention
The use of a gas mask is not without risks.
Never use a truly sealed or defective filter, unless the mask is for decorative use only.
Ensure that the wearer can breathe freely at all times and maintain control over their breathing.
Never leave the sub alone while they are wearing the mask.
Never use the gas mask if you have a cold, asthma, heart problems, or a tendency to panic.
Always watch for signs of oxygen deprivation, such as dizziness, blue lips, or confusion.
Agree on an emergency signal in advance that can be given without words, for example by stamping your feet or dropping an object.
Ensure good ventilation in the room and remove the mask immediately if in doubt.
For novice players, it is wise to first practice with short-term use or with masks that allow sufficient air to pass through before experimenting with air hoses or filters.
