Explanation of facesitting

Within BDSM, facesitting can have different meanings and purposes. In most cases, it is a form of sexual domination in which the Dominant literally and figuratively takes “the upper position.” The submissive lies on his back, while the Dominant – often a woman – positions her body so that his face is between her thighs or buttocks. This position emphasizes the power relationship: the sub is helpless, restricted in sight and movement, and often dependent on her mercy to be able to breathe.

Facesitting can range from a tender, sensual experience to an intense, humiliating, or even claustrophobic game. Some subs experience it as the ultimate form of surrender, precisely because it symbolizes complete submission to the Dominant’s body. For the Mistress, it can be a moment of control, confidence, and physical power.

Erotic play

Facesitting occurs in both erotic and non-penetrative contexts. It can be a standalone game, part of a ritual, or serve as a reward or punishment. In some D/s relationships, it also has a symbolic meaning, in which the sub literally “serves” her feet or lower body.

Safety & points of attention

Facesitting can involve risks, especially in terms of breathing. If the Dominant’s weight rests too heavily on the sub’s face or chest, it can block the airways. Therefore, always use a safe position that allows the sub to breathe – for example, by supporting the knees on either side of the head, rather than sitting completely on the face.

Experienced Mistresses learn to play subtly with pressure and timing: briefly cutting off the breath, then allowing air to flow again. This can have an intense psychological effect, but requires a great deal of control and empathy. Agree on clear signals in advance, especially when verbal stop words are not possible. An agreed gesture (such as tapping with the hand) is then essential.

Hygiene is also important: both the sub’s face and the Dominant’s lower body must be clean. Avoid facesitting in case of infections or open wounds, and be alert to allergic reactions when using lubricant or body lotion.
