D-ring
Definition
A D-ring is a metal ring shaped like the letter “D” that is used as an attachment point in BDSM, for example for ropes, cuffs, chains, or other bondage equipment. The flat side makes the ring stable, while the round side allows for smooth movement of the attachment material.

Explanation of D-ring
The D-ring is an indispensable part of many BDSM outfits. You will find them in cuffs, collars, bondage harnesses, furniture, and wall mounts. Thanks to its flat side, the ring stays in place without twisting or shifting, which increases safety. At the same time, the round side offers sufficient room for rope, carabiners, or chains.
D-rings come in various sizes and materials, usually stainless steel or chrome-plated metal. Some leather cuffs have one or more D-rings for versatile fixation, for example to attach the wrists to each other or to a piece of furniture. D-rings are also used in Shibari frames or suspension points because of their strength and even distribution of force.
Safety & points of attention
When subjecting D-rings to physical stress, only use high-quality D-rings that are designed for tensile force. Decorative rings or cheap variants can bend or break, which is dangerous in bondage or suspension.
Check regularly for rust, deformation, or welds that may come loose.
Always mount D-rings in walls, ceilings, or furniture with sturdy fasteners that can support the weight.
When used on clothing or leatherwork, it is important that the ring is securely stitched or riveted.
Never use sharp or damaged D-rings, as these can damage the rope or leather and cause unexpected detachment.
