Bench

Definitio
A crate is a metal or plastic cage, originally intended for dogs, which is used in BDSM to temporarily confine a submissive as a form of humiliation, possession play, or pet play. Being confined in the crate evokes feelings of submission, dependence, and loss of status.

Explanation of the bench

The bench is a powerful symbol within BDSM. What was once intended as a temporary shelter for four-legged animals is used in the kink world as the ultimate means of reducing someone to property, a pet, or a docile plaything.

For many subs, the crate feels like a safe place: small, enclosed, clear. They don’t have to do anything, think about anything. Just be. Lie down. Wait. Obey. For others, it is a form of deep humiliation: being locked up like a dog, hidden away, only receiving attention when the Dominant wants to give it.

Pet play

Within pet play, the crate is a logical addition. A sub who identifies as a dog or puppy gets his “basket.” The crate then becomes not a place of punishment, but part of his identity. He knows: this is where I belong. Here, I can be who I am. Outside of pet play, a crate can be a relatively inexpensive alternative to a special BDSM cage. A place where you can be locked up and/or relax.

However, the use of a dog crate is not without impact. The space is small, and the posture is often bent or curled up. Long stays can be physically demanding and mentally confronting.

Safety & points of attention

Keep an eye on the time

A human is not a dog. Lying in a small crate for too long can cause back or neck problems. Build up gradually, alternate positions, and allow breaks. Also pay attention to environmental conditions, such as temperature. Usually, the sub is naked or scantily clad in the crate. If the environment is too cold, there is a risk of hypothermia over time.

Check for emotional impact

For some subs, confinement in a crate is difficult: it evokes feelings of rejection, loneliness, or invisibility. Therefore, keep a close eye on the sub. Not only physically, but also mentally.

Use a soft surface and possibly a blanket

A cold metal floor is not comfortable. Place a mat, rug, or pillow down to make it physically bearable.
